Both teams are looking to avoid an 0-2 start to Big 12 play. OSU (3-1, 0-1 Big 12) suffered a 22-19 home loss to Utah in Week 4, while Kansas State (3-1, 0-1 Big 12) suffered a 38-9 road loss to BYU.

Outrunning the Cowboy defense, Kansas State running back DJ Giddens went 66 yards for a touchdown and a 28-13 lead for the Wildcats.
K-State now has 179 rushing yards for the game, with Giddens at 153 on seven carries.

After an empty run by Ollie Gordon II, Alan Bowman misfired on two straight pass attempts.

OSU rolled up 262 yards in the first half, with 76 on the ground. K-State had 289 total yards in the half.
OSU failed to take advantage of some opportunities, including a short field set up by an interception by cornerback Korie Black. That possession ended in a field goal with OSU up 13-7, but K-State answered with two TD drives in the second quarter.

Kansas State retook a 14-13 lead with a 19-yard pass from Avery Johnson to Garrett Oakley for a touchdown.
Oakley beat Trey Rucker on the throw, one play after Rucker was flagged for a horsecollar tackle on K-State running back DJ Giddens.
That tacked 15 yards onto a 37-yard run by Giddens prior to the TD pass.

OSU cut the K-State lead to 7-3 with a 35-yard field goal from Logan Ward after a solid starting drive.
Ollie Gordon II had a 24-yard rush in the middle of the drive, which is his longest rush of the season. It followed a 22-yard pass from Alan Bowman to De’Zhaun Stribling.
Now the focus turns back to the OSU defense. The Cowboys can’t survive trading field goals for touchdowns.

Kansas State sophomore quarterback Avery Johnson scrambled 11 yards for a touchdown, making up for the earlier TD he had wiped out by a penalty.
The Wildcats covered 75 yards on 14 plays, with 44 through the air — primarily on short throws the produced yards after the catch — and 36 rush yards into open lanes.
Johnson had a 33-yard TD run erased by an illegal shift penalty.
The possession took 5:43 off the clock.

OSU injury update: Springfield out, Wright close to returning
The Cowboys will be without right tackle Jake Springfield again Saturday at Kansas State, and he might not return until the BYU game on Oct. 18, according to Cowboy radio voice Dave Hunziker’s injury report on the pregame broadcast.
Hunziker also reported that linebacker Justin Wright has returned to practice and could be ready for game action soon.
Otherwise, the Cowboys have no new injury absences prior to Saturday’s game. Though some outside speculation had floated around about Brennan Presley's health as a result of his head-to-head contact late in last week's game. However, he was on the field in pads early Saturday.
